We have around 200 Silk Top Hats for sale on show at our Workshop. The preferred option to wear to the Royal Enclosure as part or Royal Ascot Dress Code for Gentlemen or in The Queen's Stand at the Epson Derby is a Black Vintage Silk Top Hat. These Silk Toppers are Vintage / Antique Silk Top Hats in their vintage condition that we have spruced up, or some we have repaired so all are refurbished.
The advantages of gossamer shell, Silk Top Hats are that they are typically:
- Lighter in weight than Felt Hats.
- When re-conformed to your head, maintain their shape better than Felt Toppers.
- Have a beautiful shine to the plush.
Our range of vintage Silk Top Hats normally comes with a new Hatbox, Hat brush, and velvet fingermouse to keep your Hat in good condition. As well as including a Silk Hat fitting service .
Silk plush Top Hats have not been readily made new off the shelf for many decades; The Silk Plush (traditionally called Hatters Plush) used in their making was last believed to be produced commercially in bulk in France in the 1970ies. Silk Plush came in many different colours, most predominantly Black though other colours were available historically and are very rare to find.
