Top Hats and Snowmen | Snowman Hats | Dress Code

A Joyful Noël to all! Our #Snowman Mascot Called #NotFrosty is missing the snow, and looks unlikely we may have a White Christmas next week.

Snowmen have been around for hundreds of years, if not more, the first known documented mention is from the Middle Ages, well before the time of Top Hats.

When it snows we start operation S.O.S. Save Our Snowmen! Remember make a Snowman Happy and get them a Topper over the Yuletide period.

It is hard to believe in modern times that the Top Hat still remains as a traditional hat for a Snowman to wear in images and photos, and a Top Hat even has an online emoji, yet nowdays Snowmen are more likely to be seen wearing a beanie!

Frosty the Snowman, the classic winter song written by Walter ("Jack") Rollins and Steve Nelson had Frosty come to life after weariing an old Magic Silk (Top) Hat. Where as the main character in "The Snowman" from Raymond Briggs wore a soft cloth sytle bucket hat.

So not all Snowmen wore a Top Hat, and some did not have any headwear. Hat wearing snowmen, would depend on what their makers had available, and also where built, if in public they may risk loosing the articles taken by people on Santa's naughty list!  Whilst loosing a carrot or some small lumps of coal may be ok, a useable hat is harder to justify. Cloth hats also could be easily recovered when the snow when melted, and more easily cleaned and dried out than a topper. So if using a hat then is not a great idea to use a Sunday Best!
